Hello everyone. Another band for you to read up about. I Will be hopefully branching off metal in the next few weeks so here’s your last dose of metal. For all the metal fans out there, don’t worry! I’ll come back to the genre eventually – I do love the genre myself. Anyway, I’ll stop talking and let the band Ascendia do all the talking:
How did you guys meet one another?
Answer: It started off as a two-man project between Billy (drummer) and I who are brothers. Nick (vocals) was a childhood friend who we knew from elementary school but had no idea he had pipes until high school. Once we found out we started the band and began performing shows and writing songs together.
How was the band name created?
Answer: Billy was watching Godzilla in theaters when the name suddenly popped up in his head. We all liked the way it sounded, so we decided to keep it!
How would you describe the music your band creates?
Answer: We would describe it as melodic metal/hard rock with symphonic elements. In general, we try our best not to put labels on our style since we don’t feel we fit in only one category.
What are some of the themes and messages that come across in your songs?
Answer: The Lion and the Jester is an album that explores many different themes such as betrayal, fate, religion, and tyranny. We also throw in a couple ballads that explore heartbreak and the emotions one may feel trying to cope with it.
What are your plans for 2016?
Answer: We are busy writing the next album but have only just started the promotions for The Lion and the Jester. We have filmed another music video and have plans to be touring later on in the year. More news regarding this will be released in upcoming months!
Where can people find you on social media?
Answer: People can find us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. We love hearing feedback from our fans and do our best to respond to everyone. We feel very lucky to have the fans we have made and always want to feel connected to them through our social media.
Finally, if there was only one album you could listen to for the rest of your life which one would you choose and why?
Answer: The album I would choose to listen to for the rest of my life would have to be “Once” by Nightwish. This particular album means so much to me since it transferred my musical tastes from classic rock/metal to modern European metal. It marked the beginning of discovering new bands that I never knew existed (i.e. Sonata Arctica, Firewind, Kamelot etc.). I wouldn’t be the musician I am today without this album in my life.
