Alex Tracey - Take Me To The Other Side Review
Alfie Edge / 14-05-2019
Alex Tracey’s intelligent blend of modern pop/funk with layers of retro sound evokes a homely feeling of nostalgia. This underlies the infectious riff which ties the song together, linking the redolent lyrics of the verses to the transcending falsetto of the chorus line. There is intentional irony in the relative juxtaposition of darker lyrical semantic and the catchy, positive vibe of the song. This anthemic piece seems to overcome the demons which Tracey encounters in his words and can ultimately be seen as a conception of positive thought and encouragement; the song offers a hand for the listeners that can relate and stands alone as a message of optimism. The clear musicianship visible in the guitar solo is reminiscent of prog-rock and seals the euphoric atmosphere of the track. An achieving feeling of attainment is what brings me back to this song, interesting at surface level and both rewarding and relatable internally.
