Interview: Statue of Demur
Here’s yet another band to check out and follow. This time it’s the band Statue of Demur. I’ll let the guys of this band tell you all the information you need to know about them and their music:
How did you guys meet one another?
Richard and Jake met in Cranbrook BC. Richard moved to Calgary and convinced Jake to move as well. They created a metal band called Before the Kill. We met at a show at Verns in Calgary Alberta in 2008. Mitch was playing with his high school punk band. It was clear that before the kill we needed a new drummer, and with Mitch playing a double bass drum kit in a punk band, that punk wasn't for him. He joined before the kill shortly after.
How was the band name created?
Before the kill involved into BTK which then turned into Bind Torture Kill.
The whole band decided we needed a change.
Richard came up with Statue of Demur in 2010 while driving in the boonies by WhiteBoar Lake.
How would you describe the music your band creates?
A reflection of our own individual styles melded together. Technical, heavy and groovy.
What are some of the themes and messages that come across in your songs?
Mankind, planets, gore, comical, drugs, and everything in between.
What are your plans for 2016?
Wacken metal battle
July western Canada tour
Where can people find you on social media?
Finally, if there was only one album you could listen to for the rest of your life which one would you choose and why?
