What’s your name and job role?
My name is Zoe Buckton, hello! I’m a new writer for Mad Alice Records. I’m hoping to branch into some filmography and marketing work too. You can check out some of my published writing here (http://blog.yorksj.ac.uk/zoe.buckton/) and watch this space to hear more from me on MAR.
What does Mad Alice Records mean to you?
Mad Alice Records means ‘the full package’. The marketing, recording and distribution of music in one neat bundle. It also means some very lovely people, open to lots of different music, providing a friendly helping hand.
What do you think Mad Alice Records can bring to the music business?
I think Mad Alice Records can make the music business more open to those who couldn’t access it otherwise, by facilitating talented artists with a platform for promotion, management, and most importantly – creative freedom.
And finally, what music would you say you’re into?
My music taste is a very mixed bag. I’m a huge fan of The War of The Worlds soundtrack by Jeff Wayne - I cried a lot when I saw it live. My favourite song is ‘Time’, composed by Hans Zimmer for the movie Inception. My favourite band, after much deliberation, is Brand New. I also enjoy The Smiths (so indie), Bowie (Never even heard of him) and Die Antwoord (why).
I listen to a lot of movie soundtracks, namely: Filth, Submarine and The Cornetto Trilogy films. I wouldn’t say I have guilty pleasures. This means at least half of my music is self-confessed, unadulterated trash. I have listened to the Shrek soundtrack an inhuman number of times. In fact, I usually end up chanting the miserable ogre’s name when I’m a bit too smashed to remember the song I’m trying to request is actually called ‘All Star’.
I’m looking forward to working with the team at MAR, stay tuned for more from me soon!
